More than Just Printers: How Xerox is Keeping the Workforce Connected

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

You probably know the name Xerox. And you probably know them for one thing, and one thing only: printers.

And while it is true that Xerox has produced a lot of printers in their 114 year history as a company, the truth is that, especially in today’s remote-work world, they’re so much more than printers. And they can do so much more for your business.

Which is why on this episode of B2B Tech Talk, Shelby Skrhak sits down with Jim Serra, US Distribution Account Manager for Xerox, to talk all about:

- Why Xerox is more than just a printer company

- How they’ve evolved over the years to meet the needs of today’s remote workforce

- Why they’re doubling down on their commitment to small and mid-sized businesses

- The challenges facing the channel today

- Where he sees technology going in the next year, specifically in the Managed Print Services industry

But first jim finish the sentence for me, Xeroxis more than its 115 year legacy. It's what It's continuing to innovate andalways be forward thinking in today's environment. It's just as easy to focuson this quarter or even the next...

...quarter. We spend an enormous amount oftime and effort around this process and that's what we've been doing for thelast 100 14 years. It's what allows us to thrive and whether the storm whentimes are challenging and also separates us from our others. Well, youknow about this time last year on the podcast, we discussed how Xeroxes isabout more than the office printers. Main xerox print managed print servicesbrings both efficiency and security to to businesses fleet of printers. So ayear later, how has the need for printer security become even moreimportant. Well, it's not a secret that with Covid, almost all office workershave become home office workers and that's created enormous challenges fororganizations just to figure out how to get their workforce running remotely. So security remains top of mind and we continue to partner with Mcafee andCisco with embedded features to protect those devices and data. Everyone andevery entity is a target. So it's...

...imperative for organizations to keepsecurity is a top priority. Well, you know, you mentioned how office workershave become home workers and and this distributed workforce is uh has reallyforced an evolution of all of our, the way that we work. ...artificial intelligence as they strivefor resilience And lastly, climate change and extreme weather have adirect impact on 70% of all economic sectors worldwide. Also understand intoday's workforce. It includes employees from three separategenerations. So everyone here is evolving together as part of thatevolution. Um you know, I guess when you think of Xerox, you do tend tothink of you know the the larger companies, the more enterprise typebusinesses but I understand that small and midsize businesses have become a anew or or maybe a renewed focus for Xerox. Why is that? Well, SMB hasalways been a focus and it still will be a focus. In fact, look at it thisway. Small to medium businesses are really the heartbeat of business ingeneral, all enterprise organizations and smaller businesses rely onpartnerships that have expertise in specific verticals, technologies anddeliverables. No one company can do it...

...all by themselves and the majority ofthe work force is employed by SNPs so it makes perfect sense to partner witha company like Xerox well. So let's talk about some of those solutions thatXerox has has tailored for small and medium businesses, what are some ofthose offerings and products and and basically solutions for these S. M. B.S. So for this segment we look at it from a four pronged approach, it'sdesigned to enable digital transformations in creating a seamlesswork experience at home or in the office, one is I. T. Services thatincludes a full suite of hardware, software, You know, automation tools. So customers have a single source for their needs with 24/7 support. Thisfacilitates team collaboration, improves customer engagement andautomates back office processes. And lastly, our productivity applicationsthat can automate tedious document central tasks for any device. So youexperience a more productive work whether at home in the office or on thego, can you expand a little bit on? Because I think now I think we couldall could use a little bit of productivity because we're trying to domore with less. So, you know, what are some of those productivity applicationsthat can help cut down on some of the more tedious tasks? Well, a lot of ourdevices are we use connect key technology which is not only secure butit allows you to access devices from any internet enabled device. Right, soyour phone, your laptop, your tablet,...

...all of that information andcapabilities can be done via the internet and it's fully secure?Fantastic. I mean that's that's the name of the game is that you know, whether you are in a large office are your there as an individual in yourhome office, you need that security. How does Xerox work with ingram Microfor the channel? Because you know, those are those are large, largely ourlisteners. And how do customers ultimately benefit from thisrelationship? Well, ingram micro has been a long time partner of Xeroxalmost 30 years. We've been in partnership and they play a criticalrole in the supply chain, not only for us, but for everybody in technology arechannel. Business partners benefit from ingram for their ability to get devicesout to the market faster than manufacturers can. And generally theycombine multiple om gear in one shipment. So for instance, if you havea large implementation project that requires multi brand solutions, you canget it off in one source. They have...

...dedicated team supporting the businessand live inside of the world of Xerox day to day, which makes them a trueextension of us. But what are some of the challenges that you hear from thechannel? What, what are some of the things that they are trying to solvefor their customers? Well that's a loaded question in today's environment. So looking from perspective of just getting product to market, right? Sothe industry all around the world today is struggling getting product into the, into the market. So if you look at the poor out in L. A. Right ingram Microreceives the majority of their products from that pork and there are over 80ships sitting there with products, not just frame graham, but for all all overthe country. Right? So we have to work tremendously deep, deep and wide andvery closely with transportation elements all over from the get go writethe name room plays a key role in that. So, um, containers are sitting there onships, some of them have been there...

...over eight weeks just sitting theredoctor and you know anchored and not be able to get that product off the shipis really, you know, making some constraints for us very difficult. ButI will tell you business has been strong. We just came off one of ourlargest quarters in the channel, believe it or not since 2018. So evenwith all of those challenges were still able to figure out how to get productto the customers. Well that says a lot the, the year that we've had to be ableto, I guess provide for the channel and to be able to get that much, um, thosemany solutions into, into the works basically, you know, offering these, these uh, these products solutions for the channel and for their customers Iguess as we start to, you know, to look at the big picture then if if you put aheadline on this episode, what do you want our listeners to understand mostabout Xerox in and ingram? Well, they...

...need to understand that like Imentioned, the partnership is strong and they're very specialized. Right? Sothe teams that we have internally at ingram is very, they're very large. They're dedicated resources to our business model. So all segments of thechannel have full coverage within ingram micro and with our field teamsworking hand in hand to help solve customer problems. Right so it could beanything from a printer to mps solutions to I. T. Security, anythingthat we have available ingram micro is there for us and they will continue tobe there. Fantastic. Well uh here's the here's the fun part of the podcast. Wealways ask our our guests where they see technology going in the next year. Now this doesn't have to necessarily be within the channel or within uh youknow managed print services but you know maybe something that just ticklesyour fancy. So where do you see technology going in the next year? Jim.Well as mentioned before more and more of the workforce requires full remotecapabilities with access to data in a...

...fast secure inconvenient matter. That'sthings that we've been working on you know over the years before Covid evenhit and we'll continue to do that. So we continue to work with our partnersto enhance our current portfolio as well as implement changes required toremain relevant. So you see much of the game going in the next year it will bethe same for the most part but you will see some new product launches andservices that we've been working on for many years and I can't get intospecifics today but rest assured that your act is always reinventingreengineering and thriving. Excellent. Well I really do appreciate the insightif our, if our listeners want to find out more about what we talked abouttoday, how can they reach out and where can they find more information? Theycan email me directly if if they wish jim Sarah. Uh my email is Russia's jimdot Sarah, S E R R A at xerox dot com.

I'll be more than willing to connectthem with their sales, fulfilled her up in their territory or I can work withthem and ingram to get whatever they need to schedule a call, make them feelmore comfortable about where we're going, fantastic stuff.
